Join us on a beautiful journey through the Oregon Countryside, and ride across a 700 foot long restored railroad trestle! This 20 mile trail was once a logging train corridor, and it connects two beautiful communities with a smooth shady path.
The Banks – Vernonia State Trail follows a smooth grade bike and pedestrian path winding through forest, fields and alongside the Nehalem River before you arrive in the small pioneer town of Vernonia. A short shuttle from Portland drops us off at the Banks Trail head before we hit the path, stopping occasionally for water and snacks. Highlights include crossing two 700 foot long, 80 foot high railroad trestles and learning about true pioneer country. Take the afternoon to visit the local shops and restaurants in Vernonia, or take a tour of the Vernonia Pioneer Museum before shuttling back to Portland. This trail is about 20 miles of smooth paved path one way and provides fantastic mountain views and is an ideal way to experience scenic Oregon.
